Does Amethyst witch hazel always hold its witer leaves even at maturity?

Until this year, I would have said yes. However, just this week, perhaps due to unseasonably warm weather, all the leaves dropped, leaving behind a spectacular display of amethyst flowers on every branch. I am planning to get out and photograph it tomorrow, so that I can share it on the blog. Thanks for asking!

I planted it as a small shrub in November of 2012.
